Changes in Society With the formation of large factories, people began to move to the cities. Cities grew larger and sometimes became overcrowded. This movement from a rural society to an urban society created a dramatic shift in the way people lived.

The system arose in the course of the Industrial Revolution. The factory system replaced the domestic system, in which individual workers used hand tools or simple machinery to fabricate goods in their own homes or in workshops attached to their homes.

What positive effect did the factory system have on society?

Ultimately, the factory system led to faster production, which has helped mass produce everything from cell phones to healthcare equipment. As a result, this has improved the lives of most people and allowed them access to a greater variety of goods that has enhanced their quality of life.

What is one way that the Industrial Revolution's impact?

The Industrial Revolution brought rapid urbanization or the movement of people to cities. Changes in farming, soaring population growth, and an ever-increasing demand for workers led masses of people to migrate from farms to cities.
