Which type of operating system is used on mobile devices and other consumer electronics? The most well-known mobile OSs are Android, iOS, Windows phone OS, and Symbian. The market share ratios of those OSs are Android 47.51%, iOS 41.97%, Symbian 3.31%, and Windows phone OS 2.57%. There are some other mobile OSs that are less used (BlackBerry, Samsung, etc.)
Is the operating system stored on the ROM chip?Since the contents of ROM cannot be changed, and an OS is rarely ever bug-free and therefore requires updates, don't expect to find an OS image stored in ROM. The BIOS is code for performing configuration, initialization, and a first-stage boot program. It is not a storage device.
Where is the operating system located in an embedded computer? An embedded OS may reside on a chip within an electronic device. They are often limited in the scope of what they can do. In contrast, a non-embedded OS runs from a hard disk or a solid-state drive. Non-embedded OSes, such as Windows 10 or Mac OS, are configurable and upgradable.
