Carol Peletier is one of The Walking Dead’s most beloved character but does she die throughout the show’s run?
To say that Carol Peletier is one of the best examples of character development in TV history still wouldn’t be enough to do her justice.
One of The Walking Dead‘s longest-standing characters, Carol has been portrayed by the wonderful Melissa McBride since her debut in the very first season, and she has grown into a powerful, strong and downright badass protagonist of the show.
From her endearing friendship with Daryl and connection with Ezekiel to her absolute fearlessness when it comes to confronting the horrifying evils of the world around her, Carol has been through a lot during her time on the show, but does that time ever run out?
The Walking Dead has run for 11 seasons, and throughout that run, a lot of characters have been killed off. If you’ve just started watching the show, you might want to know if Carol is one of them.
Does Carol survive in The Walking Dead?
We said that Carol is one of the longest-standing characters on The Walking Dead, and we’re happy to tell you that this is down to the fact that she does indeed survive every threat that comes her way, making it all the way to the show’s final season. She, along with Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), are the last of the original characters left on the show.
With season 11 also being the final season, there is an understandable concern that Carol may not make it out of the TWD series finale alive, especially as Melissa McBride is no longer attached to the previously-announced Daryl and Carol spin-off show – which is now just a Daryl spinoff.
That being said, the producers know how popular Carol is to the TWD Universe fans, and their eagerness to work with McBride again in the future does bode well for Carol’s chances of surviving The Walking Dead‘s series finale. Moreover, McBride herself told Entertainment Weekly that she thinks “Carol has more story to tell”.
Let’s hope that we get to see that story play out on screens in the future!

Unzertrennlich: Carol und Daryl
In Drehbuchphase zu Staffel 3 waren die Pläne für Carols Tod schon "ziemlich weit fortgeschritten". Der damalige Showrunner Glenn Mazzara überbrachte Darstellerin Melissa McBride sogar selbst die Nachricht. Glücklicherweise konnten die Autoren umgestimmt werden - nicht zuletzt durch viel Zuspruch durch Lori-Darstellerin Sarah Wayne Callies, wie Andrew Lincoln bereits 2016 Entertainment Weekely verriet.

Tatsächlich war das Schicksal von Carol in Staffel 3 für einen kurzen Moment offen. Nachdem sie und T-Dog in dem von Zombies überrannten Gefängnis-Komplex angegriffen wurden und T-Dog brutal zerfleischt wurde, verschwand Carol spurlos. Erst 2 Folgen später tauchte sie quicklebendig wieder auf.
In Staffel 3 ist Carol quasi zwei Mal dem Tod von der Schippe gesprungen. Denn auch in der Comicvorlage musste Carol während des Gefängnis-Arcs sterben - sie nahm sich selbst das Leben. Carol am Leben zu lassen, ist vermutlich die beste Entscheidung, die die kreativen Köpfe hinter The Walking Dead je getroffen haben.

10 Staffeln The Walking Dead - Carol ist unsterblich
Viele unvergessliche Momente brachte uns Carol über die Jahre. So entwickelte sie sich von einer verletzlichen Frau, die unter der Gewalt ihres Mannes litt (erinnert sich noch jemand an Ed?) zu einer taffen Überlebenskünstlerin, die selbst vor Kinder- und Massenmord nicht zurückschreckt, wenn es die Situation erfordert.
Nachdem sie Rick in Staffel 4 für den Mord an zwei Menschen im Gefängnis ins Exil schickte, begann Carols Entwicklung erst richtig Fahrt aufzunehmen. Ich kann mir kaum vorstellen, wie The Walking Dead ohne Carol funktioniert hätte. Zumindest durch Carol sehe ich Plätzchen und Blumen nun mit ganz anderen Augen.

Vom Terminus-Massaker bis hin zur großen Whisperer-Schlacht prägte Carol die Serie mit zahlreichen Highlights und ikonischen Szenen. Und sicher wäre auch Daryl ohne sie ein weniger spannender Charakter. Aber zum Glück müssen wir uns keine Sorgen mehr über Königin Carol machen.
Noch insgesamt 30 Folgen The Walking Dead stehen vor uns, ehe wir uns von der Zombieserie verabschieden müssen, die das Genre in den letzten 10 Jahren maßgeblich prägte. Das sind 30 Folgen, in denen uns Carol noch viele weitere unvergessliche Momente schenken kann.
